la city redistricting: send an Email!

9/28/2021

PLB residents: LA is undergoing its 10-year City Council redistricting process. There are plans afoot to remove PLB from CD4 and stick us in a district that puts more emphasis on homeowners than renters. We'd prefer to stay with renter-friendly CD4 and Councilmember Nithya Raman. Help support this POV and SEND AN EMAIL TO THE REDISTRICTING COMMISSION ([email protected]) BEFORE FRIDAY AT NOON. Here's one you can cut and paste:
    I live in Park La Brea. I'm writing to request that Park La Brea, a multi-cultural community consisting entirely of tenants, remain unified in the redistricting process with other multi-cultural tenant-rich communities. In particular, I would like us to stay in the same council district as Los Feliz.
    Here's why this is important. The statewide and city-wide housing shortage makes clear that some of the most impactful legislation City Council will consider over the next decade and more will weigh the interests of landlords and homeowners against the interests of tenants. It's therefore crucial that multi-cultural tenant-rich communities such as Park La Brea and Los Feliz remain unified so that tenants have clear representation on City Council during those discussions. At present, there is only one such clear voice, recently elected, on the Council. By dividing Park La Brea and Los Feliz across different districts, the maps under consideration might well reduce that to zero.
    Please ensure that Park La Brea and Los Feliz remain in the same council district. Thank you for your consideration.

Updates on 9/21 Armed Robbery

9/24/2021

We have received some information from LAPD on the incident, indicating that:
  1. The armed robbery was a random act of violence (no connection between victim and perpetrators);
  2. The victim was not injured;
  3. The alleged perpetrators were four young men between the ages of 18 and 21;
  4. The perpetrators are NOT still at large (no further details on this statement).
We will post more details as soon as we have them. Many thanks to Senior Lead Officer Schube for responding to our inquiry.

Update with additional details:
The victim parked in his reserved parking space by Tower 46. When he exited his car, two armed and masked men attacked him from behind, holding a gun to his back and shouting at him to get on the ground. They then took his keys, his watch, and a backpack that contained a laptop, among other items. They ran to a waiting car, and sped off east and south, going the wrong way in the one-way section of unassigned parking behind Tower 45 to leave Park La Brea.  The victim called the police and filed a police report at the scene.

Please be aware of your surroundings when parking and exiting your cars. And if you have not yet signed the PLBRA Security and Safety Petition, please do so now, and share it with friends and neighbors. Thanks.
