The Park LaBrea
Residents Association

is an organization of volunteers who have joined together since 1988 to work actively for the benefit of the community and all its residents.

Our members wish to thank Park La Brea Management for its ongoing support of the Cultural Activities Program and its interest in enhancing the social life of our community.

Special Links

Here are a few web sites that may be of special interest to Park La Brea residents. Simply click on the site name to access the individual sites.

www.sigalert.com -- A live traffic map of the major arteries in our fair (and grid locked) city. Don't leave home without it.

www.teach12.com  -- Cultural events in Los Angles compiled by the Teaching Company. Although partly an advertising vehicle for the Teaching Company, an excellent source of plays, exhibits, lectures, and the like in Los Angeles.

www.latimes.com -- Need we say more? Get your dose of news online--much as we enjoy our physical newspapers, the online versions and all the free content on the Internet seem to be slowly putting the Newspapers "as we know them" out of business. Of course for all the tranaplants, there's www.nyt.com as well.

www.senior.com -- Information of special interest to seniors. A rather bland site, also check out www.aarp.org, and put "information for seniors" into Google, and you'll find many interesting and useful sites, particularly U.S. government sites.

www.fool.com -- Don't be fooled. This is the Motley Fool site that provides serious stock market information and analysis.

www.genhomepage.com
-- For those interested in family genealogy.

www.google.com -- A great search engine. Some would say "The only search engine" but perhaps that's overstating it a bit. Google offers many other services, including the free www.gmail.com.

www.snopes.com -- Curious about all those strange things you hear about on the internet? Many of them are "Urban Legends." Check out everything from reports of alligators in the sewers of NYC to reports of the latest computer virus.

en.wikipedia.org --The place to go for information about just about anything, Wikipedia is the digital replacement for the Encyclopedia--of course, you can also get the Britannica on line at www.britannica.com if you like, but be prepared to pay for some of the information, while Wikipedia is free, free, free, and you can even sign up and contribute.

www.oed.com -- Still trying to charge money and sell CD's, the Oxfort English Dictionary is never-the-less THE source. Here's a slightly more useful online source: AskOxford.com, and as usual a quick trip to Google with "Online Dictionaries" will help you find that elusive verbal nuance.

Found other useful sites? We'll have a page up soon where you can tell everyone about your gems, but in the interim, email:  webmaster@plbra.org with suggestions and comments.
