11/5 – The Tokyo Story (1953) NR
136 minutes – Now recognized as “One of the Ten Best Movies ever made” this absorbing film by Yasujiro Ozu, set in modern-day Tokyo is a study of the generational differences in family life when an aged couple from a distant city visit their successful offspring on a first-time trip to Tokyo. Beautifully directed and truthfully acted, this is a modern classic that must be seen. (In Japanese with English subtitles)
11/12 – La Mystere Picasso (1956) NR
78 minutes – “One of the most joyful of all records of an artist at work.” (THE NEW YORKER) This is a rare opportunity to see a great artist create masterful works before your very eyes. More than that, it’s a fascinating insight into the mind and passion of one of the world’s greatest artists lovingly filmed by Claude Renoir with an appropriate score by Georges Auric. (In French with English subtitles)
11/19 – The French They Are a Funny Race (1955) PG-13
105 minutes – Expatriate Preston Sturges has created in this film a kind of literate comic vaudeville show with a series of scenes depicting a Frenchman’s idea of an Englishman’s view of French life. Reveling in this bit of French frivolity is Jack Buchanan, Catherine Boyl and Martine Carol.
11/26 – NO MOVIE – THANKSGIVING DAY.
