Residents Association

is an organization of voulnteers who have joined together since 1988 to work actively for the benefit of the community and all its residents.

Book Discussion Group

Sharlot Mather, 323-932-1907. Meets every 3rd Wednesday, 3:00pm-4:00pm in the Lobby Office of Tower 48. 10-12 members.

Purpose: To read and discuss a large variety of fiction and non-fiction. Current book is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson..

Bridge Club

Contacts: 323-571-2963, 323-571-9501, 323-653-4715. Meets Mondays and Thursdays, 12:00noon-3:30pm at the Activities Center. At least 2 tables.

Purpose: To get together in friendship and to enjoy each other’s company. Bridge is our pleasure.

Brush up your Shakespeare

Fred Keller, 323-571-2483, wildblueboar@gmail.com. Meets every Sunday 2:00pm-4:00pm in Activities Center. 20-25 members.

Purpose:  To read and interpret the plays of Shakespeare. The current play is  “Antony and Cleopatra”.

Chess Club

Harry LeMay, 323-935-4053, Steve Carter, 323-931-5579. Meets Mondays and Saturdays, 10:00am-12:00noon at the Activities Center.

Purpose: To enjoy playing chess with others.

ESL (English as a Second Language)

Zhita Rea, 323-571-1603, zhitajim@hotmail.com , Karin Green, 323-938-7799, karinmg@ca.rr.com . The Conversation Group meets every Tuesday evening, 7:00pm-8:00pm in the Lobby Office of Tower 37. 6-12 members.

Purpose: To provide practice in English conversation in a multi-cultural group.  One-to-one tutoring is also available to deepen knowledge of English and foster intercultural exchanges.

Library

Joyce Bunten, 323-935-8474. Open every afternoon, 7 days a week, 2:00pm-4:00pm, in basement of Tower 34. Director and 8 volunteers.

Purpose: To loan books and video material to PLB residents.

Quilters

Mary Jane Hopkins. 323-938-4861. Meets every Friday, 10:00am-3:00pm in Park La Brea Activity Center. 7-12 members.

Purpose: Camaraderie, sharing knowledge, advice, and experience. Makes quilts for Linus—Blankets for Children.

T’ai Chi

Karin Green. 323-938-7799. karinmg@ ca.rr.com.  Meets every Tuesday and Friday, 8:30am-9:00am (advanced group) and 9:00am-9:30am (beginners) around Burnside Circle Fountain. Rain cancels. 15-25 members.

Purpose: To learn and practice together a simplified form of t’ai chi for health, meditation, and exercise.

Speaking Shakespeare

Fred Keller, 323-571-2483, wildblueboar@gmail.com.  Meets every Sunday 1:00pm-2:00pm in the Activities Center. 10 members (class size limited).

Purpose: To practice speaking Shakespeare’s words.

Writers  Group

Grace Dinerstein, 323-549-0644; Elliott Witt, 323-932-8307. Meets every other Wednesday (next meeting will be Oct. 6), in the Lobby Office of Tower 48. 6-10 members.

Purpose: To foster original writing and mutual criticism.

New Kids’ Art Club

Debi Doodles (Debora Gillman).For information, contact Activities Center. Will meet the 3rd Sunday of every month, 11:00a to 12:30p in the Activities Center. Purpose: Art Activities for Children. Materials will be supplied.
